We’re Walking to End Alzheimer’s—Here’s Why It Matters

Aug 8, 2025

On Saturday, September 21st, join thousands of others in Glenview, IL for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s®—and we’d love for you to walk alongside us, volunteer, or support our efforts with a donation.

For us, this isn’t just another event on the calendar. It’s a deeply personal mission.

Why We Walk

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, affecting millions of people worldwide. It doesn’t just take away memories—it takes away independence, relationships, and pieces of the person we love.

Our very own Dr. Poonam Merai, Harper Health’s geriatrician, walks because this cause is close to her heart.

What the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Means

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a fundraiser—it’s a movement. It’s about uniting as a community to:

  • Support families currently facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias

  • Advance critical research toward prevention and treatment

  • Raise awareness about early detection and lifestyle steps that can protect brain health

When we walk, we carry colorful flowers as part of the Promise Garden, each representing our personal connection to the disease—whether we’re walking in honor, in memory, or in hope.
